Four Email Marketing Must Dos for Small Business
Four basic email marketing tips to get your newsletters flying out of your MailChimp, Mailer Lite, Active Campaign or Klaviyo account.
You need an eDM template (or two)
You will never email anyone regularly if you are setting up your email from scratch each time. Take half an hour to set up at least one template for your most regular email marketing, your monthly, weekly, fortnightly, leap year newsletter.
The easiest approach is to grab your latest newsletter and turn it into a template (you can usually do this from settings).
Then edit the template to include:
Social links - nothing more awkward than a wee FB icon that takes you straight to the Facebook homepage and not to your business page…set them up in your template and never touch again!
A header image (linked to your website) - branding is important!
An invitation to reply to you (make sure your reply email is set up correctly)
Consistent features saved as blocks - new products, best selling collection, latest blog, latest Instagram post….this makes it a no brainer to set up each week or month
Use imagery in your eDMs (and link it!)
Browse Unsplash to find on brand stock imagery
Use GIFs to spice things up
Include a photo of you or the team - people connect with people!
Link each image to something relevant because there is nothing worse than clicking on an image and it loading full size in your browser ….as just an image with no link
Regular re-engagement when you fall off the wagon
Re-engagement campaigns are great for those who have collected email addresses but done nothing with them for years or who have fallen off the email marketing wagon
Re-introduce yourself, remind people about your brand and what makes your unique
Include a nice unsubscribe button to let people who aren’t your people unsubscribe easily & painlessly - no hard feelings team!
Know where your new subscribers come from
Offer a discount for signing up to your mailing list
If you run giveaways make the most crucial condition of entry a mailing list subscription rather than relying on social media likes
Create a mini funnel using lead magnets to grow your list
